Alfred Theodore Braithwaite, 79, of Hilo died July 23 at home. Born in Ferndale, Wash., he was a retired university computer science and advanced mathematics professor. Services held. Survived by sons, David (Tanya) Braithwaite of Lynden, Wash., and Daniel John Braithwaite of Hilo; daughters, Dorothy Braithwaite of Little Rock, Ark., and Deborah (Johnny) Anderson of Hilo; brothers, Edwin Braithwaite of Cedarville, Ohio and Gilbert (Pam) Braithwaite of the mainland; sister, Mary Vivian (Fred) Karlson of Ferndale; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Eugene Leroy Christiansen, 69, of Keaau died Aug. 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Aberdeen, Wash., he was a retired computer programmer for Costco and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Services held. Loretta “Mama Kim Chee” P.N. Matias, 89, of Waimea died July 21 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kohala, she was a housewife, former owner of Kohala Kim Chee and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward. Ruperto Morales Sumoba, 82, of Hilo died July 21 at Life Center of Hilo. Born in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, the Philippines, he was a retired seed cutter for the former Mauna Kea Sugar Co. and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Henry Kuapalahalaha Pikini, 88, of Keaau, formerly of Honolulu, died Aug. 6 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Honolulu, He was a retired deputy warden of Halawa Correctional Facility, member of Elks Club Lodge #616 and Knight of Pythias Mystic Lodge in Honolulu and U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. Henry was a great father and good friend to all. Private services at a later date. Survived by sons, William M. (Eddy) Pikini of Keaau and Paul M.
